A very comfortable cottage with 2 en-suite bedrooms in a fantastic location
This two bedroomed cottage is located in a designated area of natural outstanding beauty, adjacent to the western edge of Exmoor. It is right beside the National Trust area of Heddon Valley which also takes in the Great and Little Hangman and Woody Bay. The location offers many advantages in terms of a base to explore North Devon including Exmoor and the Heritage Coast, much of which is protected by the National Trust. The cottage was completed in 2009 and guests will benefit from the comforts of a new house with new equipment and furnishings.
The cottage is attractively appointed and furnished to a high standard with an extensive inventory of equipment. Both of the bedrooms are en-suite and there is a downstairs toilet as well. Comfort of the guests is enhanced by pocket sprung beds in both bedrooms, the master bedroom has a king sized bed and the other bedroom has twin beds. The kitchen is very well equipped for all catering needs. The lounge has two comfortable leather two seater sofas and an oak dining table with four chairs. For entertainment there is a 26" HD ready LCD television with a digital tuner and Freeview, along with a Panasonic DVD player and recorder and iPod speakers with integrated radio. The patio is a sun trap and is adorned with an attractive patio table, chairs and parasol. It is a great place to unwind with a drink after a day out. Guests have free use of the gas barbeque with gas provided.
The cottage is ideal for two couples or one couple with one or two children to enjoy the spectacular coastline and attractive beaches (e.g. Woolacombe) of North Devon. Unfortunately the cottage is not suitable for children under four years old and smoking and pets and single sex groups are not permitted either.
Combe Martin lies at the centre of some of North Devon’s most spectacular scenery. The approach to Combe Martin offers the visitor glimpses of some stunning views. The two headlands of Great and Little Hangman dominate the scene which greets visitors to the village as they journey down to the pretty sheltered harbour below. A walk from the front door will get you into Exmoor in five - ten minutes and onto the top of Little Hangman (Headland overlooking coast) in about 30 minutes. The beach is a mixture of sand, pebbles and a fascinating rocky shore, which at low tide extends into large areas of firm, clean sand. This is only 0.5 miles (10 minutes) flat walk from the cottage. The rocky nature provides an added attraction, especially for children, in the form of numerous rock swimming pools teeming with sea creatures. Sea fishing for bass, mullett and mackeral is possible from the harbor/beach and there are other good fishing sites nearby including Watermouth and Ilfracombe behind Capstone rock. A couple of sea fishing rods are available for the use of guests. At night the promenade is lit up and meals can be taken in a choice of restaurants or pubs.
Nearby attractions include a spectacular sandy beach at Woolacombe, wonderful coastal scenery at Mortehoe and Lynton and Lynmouth. A walk to the Valley of the Rocks is lovely from Lynton and you can also walk to Watersmeet house from Lynmouth. The National Trust property of Arlington Court is nearby and Dunster Castle is within easy reach. The resort of Ilfracombe, a short drive away, offers a theatre, fishing trips, wildlife cruises and trips to Lundy. Barnstaple is also within easy reach with a good range of shop, stores and restaurants.
North Devon also offers a wealth of tourist attractions and activities, including Walking, Cycling, Gardens, Quad Bikes, Karting, Horseriding, Paint Balling and Surfing at Woolacombe and Croyde to name a few.
