The Bodrum peninsula is one of the most attractive parts of Turkeys Aegean Coast. There are numerous small fishing villages and resorts around the peninsula, each with their own distinct individual character. There are many small coves, and larger beaches - many offering a range of water sports, and daily boat trips.
The area is steeped in history, and this is still evident across the peninsula. Take time to visit the more obvious sites in Bodrum such as: St Peters Castle, The Mausoleum, The Amphi Theatre and Myndos Gate. Lycian and Roman ruins can be found throughout the region including suck attractions such as Ephesus, the largest archaeological site in the world, the temple of Apollo at Didim, and the 16th century castle of St Peter, built by the crusaders, standing guard over Bodrum Harbour.
The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
Turkeys south-western most shore is dominated by the Baba, Akdað and Bey ranges of the Toros Mountains, which dro p precipitously to a road running mostly parallel to the sea, its curves sometimes skimming just above the water this is the Turquoise Coast, noted for its fine beaches and attractive scenery. Along here, and some distance inland, lay the ancient kingdom of Lycia, peopled by an independent race who bequeathed a legacy of distinctive rock tombs to Turkish tourism.
The weather is reliably excellent and there are heaps of things to see and do. The Turquoise coast at its finest has become the destination of first choice for many first time and repeat visitors to Turkey with it’s nearly 1000 miles of excellent beaches, attractive beaches and historic ruins. As one of the more popular areas of Turkey as it offers a mixture of warm blue seas, sun kissed beaches, and whether you are looking for nightlife or a more cultured perspective of the area then the region has all this and more.
