The Area
In a traditional cave house like Cuevas Alfano, holiday accommodation anywhere else simply couldn't give you the same kind of experience as you'll be guaranteed of when you choose this authentic and unique style of holiday rental in Spain - cave houses in Freila being found with all the peaceful seclusion you would expect half-way up a rugged hillside. In the village of Freila there are two small supermarkets, a butchers, bakers, fishmongers, post office, bank and pharmacy and various tapas bars/restaurants in the village.
We are also close to the market town of Baza where there are plenty of shops and large supermarkets. Cuevas Alfano would therefore suit anyone with a love of the great outdoors as this village is located in an area positively bursting with outstanding natural beauty, much of which is protected within the boundaries of no less than four national parks, including Sierra de Baza - also putting you within easy reach of the attractive Lake Negratin and the thermal baths at Zujar.
With such a diversity of natural environments this north-eastern corner of the Province of Granada is surrounded by the verdant valleys, limestone gorges, pine forests and tranquil lakes that make this such an attractive region to anyone looking for a complete contrast to the busy beach resorts of neighbouring Costa Almeria - Cuevas Alfano being just as unique as the countryside in which it is found, where you'd be more likely to find a traditional cave house in the Freila area than the more usual option of a villa rental. In Granada, holiday cave houses are something of a novelty to many visitors but are in fact a cultural and historical icon, if not a regional speciality to the Freila area - cave house rentals being found in rural locations like Zujar, Bacor and Cortes de Baza, as well as many other ancient towns and villages that are scattered throughout this scenically breathtaking part of Granada. Cuevas Alfano not only makes the ideal base for exploring the spectacular landscapes of this part of the region on foot, by mountain-bike or on horse-back, but if you have a passion for the fascinating cultural heritage of Andalucia, Cuevas Alfano couldn't be more appropriate for an authentic experience of this typically rustic style of holiday home accommodation in Granada.
