Located in a quiet rural village, this privately owned Cottage is a perfect base for exploring the West coastal region, North of Lisbon. The Cottage is less than one hour by car from Lisbon Portela airport, 20mins to Peniche, 15mins Lourinha and It is a 10min journey by car to the nearest beaches of which there are plenty to choose from, some quieter than others, supermarkets or restaurants. There is a village shop & cafe within walking distance. It is essential to hire a car.

The West Coast-Land of Sea & Vineyards
The Cottage is the perfect location to explore & enjoy both the coast of Lisbon & the most Westerly Coast of Europe.
Local activities include: walking, cycling, horse-riding, swimming, surfing, golf & water sports. Local attractions include: miles of attractive beaches, museums, monuments, handicraft/pottery markets & shops. Village festas which take place mainly in the summer, with their religious processions, dancing, traditional dress, eating, drinking and fireworks late into the night. Festivals, markets & excellent restaurants serving locally produced wines.
Slightly further away, but easily accessible by car are numerous famous Portuguese towns such as Nazare, Tomar, Alcobaca, Caldas da Rainha, Fatima, Torres Vedras & many more.
Peniche is 20kms from the Cottage and is a busy fishing town with a bustling harbour and small marina. The main road has a huge variety of very affordable fish restaurants overlooking the harbour, popular with both locals and tourists. Peniche is a great place to go fishing, walking along the coastline or visiting the many attractions such as the fortress, walls and museum, the lace making school, the churches, and beaches with water sports, attractive gardens and gothic springs.
Berlenga Island, formed of rosy granite lays 6kms off the coast of Peniche. It is a protected bio-genetic reserve. The island is a bird lovers paradise and has more than 80 species of flora. A attractive place which is popular with artists and overnight campers. The waters around Berlenga also offer some fabulous diving sites. There are several boat companies offering tours to the island at a reasonable cost from Peniche harbour.
Discover the West Coast of Lisbon
The town of Lourinha is 10kms away where there is a theatre, gym, and club, a variety of shops, tennis courts, restaurants, cafes as well as tourist attractions including the dinosaur museum, park, convent, church and font. The beaches around Lourinha offer miles of coastline to sit and relax on or to enjoy the many water sports available.
The walled town of Obidos is an absolute must for all visitors to Portugal. With its narrow cobbled streets and high walled gardens this town has been destroyed and rebuilt throughout history. This attractive town has many churches, craft shops and views over the surrounding areas, viaduct, monastery and sanctuary. The Lagoa de Obidos are close by. The attractive lagoon is the largest in Europe where you can enjoy a BBQ in the pine woods overlooking the lagoon where there is an abundance of wildlife and water sports are available.
The capital of Portugal is less than an hour away by car from the Cottage. The cosmopolitan town of Estoril-renowned for its beaches, golf courses and the largest casino in Europe. The fishing town of Cascais is home to excellent restaurants and bars, a busy marina with a lively atmosphere and superb shopping. Ancient Sintra has attractive buildings and monuments such as the famous Pena Palace. All within one hour travelling by car.
