La Pibole is in an idyllic setting on the edge of the village of Vouvant, considered to be one of the prettiest in France, at the bottom of the castle ramparts adjacent to the Romanesque bridge. The garden runs for 30m along the river Mere where there is direct access for canoeing, boating, fishing, swimming or simply lounging on the decking watching the ducks go by.
The cottage has two very large double bedrooms and one twin room, one with an exceptional ensuite bathroom with featured fire place; the other has a window which opens out onto the river - so you can fish from your bedroom!
There is 6m x 6m lounge with wood burner, a further lounge again with wood burner which can be used as a third bedroom and a separate dining area. The cottage has been recently restored to an exceptional standard, is beamed throughout with exposed walls revealing the local limestone for which the area is renowned.
The kitchen is fully equipped and leads to the garden with secluded seating area, decked Barbecue area and frontage to the River Mere.
The location and quality of its attractively restored interior make it almost unique in the holiday rental market.
The fortified village of Vouvant is the South Vendee’s representative in the prettiest village in France club” and is a truly wonderful place. The centre of the village is dominated by the 11th Century church; the Melusine Tower (what remains of the castle) and ramparts overlook a wide meander in the River Mere and the charmingly narrow streets house a plethora of artists studios as well as a boulangerie, café’s, bars and restaurants.
The River Mere has been damned downstream of Vouvant to create the Vouvant – Mervant lake system which has many miles of lakes and waterways meandering through the Mervant - Vouvant forest, a vast nature lovers paradise with forest walks, cycle paths, sailing and canoeing.
The surrounding area is a mix of sunflower fields, rolling hills and pretty limestone villages tucked away waiting to be discovered; reminiscent of the Cotswolds but with sunshine. The area benefits from a micro climate, giving the region a level of summer sunshine bettered in France only by the Cote d'Azur.
Within 45 minutes there are further attractions such as - Le Puy de Fou, one of France's most popular tourist attractions, Pescalis (fishing heaven) and Futuroscope, not too mention some of the best surf beaches in Europe.
Vendee Coast and the attractive town of La Rochelle is about one hour away by car.
