General
We are Kim & Heather and we purchased Kermabiou in January 2005 after three visits to various parts of France in 2004. During that two day visit to Brittany in September 2004 we looked at 15 houses and Kermabiou was that last one we saw. We only agreed to view it as we were staying locally. We turned into the drive and fell in love with it immediately.
The house was built in 1847 and we are the fifth family to own it. In early 2007 we sold a small piece of land back to a local who was going to build a house next door. Various problems incurred by him have resulted in no house being built at present, so it is very secluded.
Unfortunately looks can be deceiving and after we had completed the purchase and started to redecorate, found that what we had bought was not what it seemed. The previous owners had done such a good job of covering the walls with various layers of paint, plywood, plastic and material, they had caused a major condensation problem that caused dampness. As we stripped back these layers the base rendering just fell away exposing the stone you can see from the outside. We embarked on a two year long programme of works, which dealt with the living room and bedrooms.
In 2009 we had a new kitchen fitted and in early 2010 the pool was installed.
The bathroom was fitted in early 2011.
