RESTAURANTS IN THE AREA

Coral Oasis
Coral Oasis is very close to Jade Palace and the Keralam, it’s signature dishes are fish of the day or whatever is roasting on the spit outside! There is some traditional if not dubious entertainment on offer and light hearted revellers will be highly amused with waiters balancing stacks of glasses on their heads whilst shouting Whoopah!

Barones
An informal restaurant offering Italian / Mediterranean cuisine. Take Aways are also available.

Jade Palace
Jade Palace is a wonderful Chinese restaurant in attractive surroundings. You will not be disappointed with the great service and exquisite food. The banquets are particularly good value and Take Aways are available.

Keralam
This Indian restaurant offers authentic cooking and a great value €9.99 set menu. Take Aways are available.

O’ Solomons Bar and Restaurant

Frog and Toad
A traditional British pub offering quiz nights, SKY sports and live entertainment on different evenings throughout the week.

Yialia’s Taverna
You can walk to this great local restaurant hidden far away from tourists and reserved only for those in the know! Yialio’s can be found on the coast and offers traditional Cypriot food and meze.

Spillies Taverna and Swimming pool Bar
Set in a wonderful location with stunning wonderful coastal views, this popular taverna is uniquely built into a cave! The food available is traditional, local and mouth watering. You can enjoy a veritable feast here or simply laze around the pool with a frappe! The pool is 10m x 5m and is not very deep and for that reason I have found it ideal for children. After all if they are happy – we are happy!!

Sea Caves Tavern
Sea Caves is a family run taverna offering simple Cypriot cuisine including grilled meats, souvla and mousaka. The views are attractive and you can witness breathtaking sunsets from the terrace whilst sipping a glass of locally produced wine. Everyone within the family works here from the children to the Grandparents and stepping into the taverna is like stepping into their home.

Samisen
A new Japanese restaurant found on the main strip which offers good food and a great atmosphere. The Sushi chefs are flamboyant in their role and delight diners with their culinary tricks and juggling!

Coral King
Coral King can be found on the main strip and can be spotted by the huge crown above it’s main entrance. There is an extensive menu that incorporates both local cuisine and a la carte dining. It also boasts a delicious dessert menu for those with a sweet tooth.A popular place with the residents and visitors alike!

Trattoria La Vignia
A stylish Italian Restaurant which is more fitting for a special occasion! Dine al fresco under the stars on the attractive terrace. Trattoria La Vignia has a wide-ranging choice of appetizers, main courses and desserts.

BARS AND RESTUARNTS IN PEYIA

Coral Breeze
This informal local restaurant can be found just off the main road between Coral Bay and Agios Georgios. It is extremely popular with residents and offers both a Cypriot and British dishes. There are great value Set Menus throughout the week as well as a traditional Sunday lunch or Cypriot Barbecue menu on Sundays. Just try their Cherry Pie and you will definitely go back for more!!

Sophie’s Restaurant and JJ’s Bar
Sophie’s Restaurant is run by a British family and they offer an all you can eat themed buffet throughout the week. Different themed evenings include Mexican, Thai and Chinese, Greek or Indian. On Sunday there is a traditional carvery available.

Above Sophie’s the family have opened JJ Bar which has far reaching views of neighbouring villages and the coastline below.

The Mill
The Mill is an intimate wine bar with a wonderful atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks.

The Jail Pub
Contrary to what you might believe you will not be serving time in this quaint taverna and I’m quite certain you will enjoy the merriment to be had here!

Cousins
A family run taverna with a warm welcome that specialises in local dishes and first rate Mezes. The view looks out towards the coastline and below you will see the main square in Peyia coming alive with animated conversation.

Shopping
There is a Supermarket providing newspapers and groceries within a ten minute stroll of the villa. This is ideal for convenience however for larger shopping lists I would recommend heading for one of the Supermarkets in Peyia or Chlorakas.

Groceries
Head into Peyia Village for grocery shopping:

Supermarkets
Phillippos Supermarket is located behind the Church and has absolutely everything at the cheapest prices.

Spiros Supermarket is relatively new and offers fruit, vegetables and some groceries. There is not as much choice here but you can get some great ‘buy one get one frees’!!

Papantoniou’s is a major chain supermarket that has a fish / meat counter, bakery and delicatessen.

Bakery
Constantinides Bakery is open 24 hours and has fresh cakes, bread and pasteries. They even have a delicatessen counter offering everything from chorizo to sushi!

Butchers
If you do not want to travel into town then try the butchers in Peyia. The meat is good here although it is a little bit more expensive than you would pay at Papantoniou’s. They also have fresh Kleftiko bubbling in their clay ovens every Tuesday and Friday this aromatic lamb dish is cooked slowly with potatoes all day and you will find that one portion is enough to feed 2!

Fishmongers
If you follow the main road towards Paphos as you pass the first set of traffic lights you will see a Fishmongers immediately on your left hand side. Here you will find every kind of fish and seafood ou could desire from scallops and king prawns to wild salmon, tuna steaks and sword fish. The fish is frozen here and most has come directly from London’s renowned Billingsgate Fish Market.

Pharmacy
There are two pharmacies in Peyia and another one on the main strip of Coral Bay. Pharmacies are very good in Cyprus and you will find good ‘over the counter’ advise and remedies for common problems.

Doctors
Dr Eleni is located just behind the main pharmacy opposite the Jail Pub. There is no need to make an appointment here. Dr Eleni is a General Practitioner who specialises as a Paeditrician.

Things to do Outside of Coral Bay
Paphos
Paphos is located approximately 30km from Pissouri. Kato Paphos and the main tourist area is land marked by the pretty harbour and dramatic Fort perched on the waters edge. The promenade is the perfect place for a stroll in the warm sunshine and you will find many taverns offering fresh fish and local cuisine to while away an afternoon whilst watching the little fishing boats bob up and down in the water.

Paphos is rich in ancient sites, including the House of Dionysos and the Villa of Theseus, with attractive mosaic floors, and the Tombs of the Kings. There is a wide variety of activities and facilities to suit all ages whether you are holidaying or living here permanently.

Enjoy an active life in the sun on a choice of beaches where you can try all water sports in the warm Mediterranean Sea from diving to the flying fish!

East of Coral Bay
Agios Georgios
The tiny fishing harbour of Agios Georgios with a great fish restaurant with stunning views of the glistening Mediterranean Sea.

This sleepy village offers a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of neighbouring resort of Coral Bay which is just a five minute drive away and is an ideal base for exploring the rugged and dramatic landscape of the Akamas.

Peyia
This charming village clings to the rugged hills above the crystal waters of the glistening Mediterranean.

While locals like to claim that in Peyia nothing happens in a hurry, the truth is that nothing much happens at all! However, its this soporific quality that imbues Peyia with most of its charm.

Peyia proves a welcome antidote to the bustle of nearby Paphos and is a great place to while away a relaxing lunchtime with a meze and a cold bottle of Keo. Having slumbered through the day Peyia wakes up at night. Taverna tables groaning under the weight of fresh fish fill the central square, the evening air cools and the village comes alive with the sounds of animated conversation.

There are many restaurants and tavernas to sample including Cousins a family run taverna offering

Latchi
Fans of fresh seafood should make for the picturesque fishing village of Latchi, which has some of the best fish restaurants located along the pretty harbour.

Latchi has plenty to appeal to the tourist. Water sports such as parasailing are available here. Boats can be hired from Latchi harbour from where you can take your boat to the Blue Lagoon and swim in the emerald green sea.

Aphrodites Bath is close by the picturesque rock pool and waterfall where the goddess is believed to have bathed, oozes with magic and mystery. Legend has it that the water from the baths is rejuvenating and will bless you with eternal youth! We will let you be the judge! The nearby Akamas Peninsular is an untouched wilderness laced with hiking trails and secluded coves bitten from the pink rock. Offshore, the waters are a glassy mosaic of greens and blues that promise some of the best snorkeling and diving on the island.

Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley
Close to Petra Tou Romiou you will find a choice of two leisure resorts Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley. Combined these resorts offer superb play on two x 18 hole golf courses, driving ranges and a three hole pitch and put course. If Golf is not your idea of fun you can relax in the spa, polish your tennis skills with professional lessons and play in the regular tennis social classes or simply unwind and enjoy a leisurely lunch in one of the elegant restaurants set against luscious green surroundings!

Petra Tou Romiou
Close to Aphrodite Hills and Secret Valley you will find one of the most photographed scenes in Cyprus, Petra Tou Romiou more commonly known as Aphrodite’s Birth Place. The dramatic rocks look like monumental tear drops in the ocean and are backdrop to the mythological setting where Aphrodite emerged from the waves! You may prefer just to take in the view or if you feel a little more adventurous perhaps climb the largest of the tear dro p rocks or swim around it three times to be blessed with Aphrodite’s famed eternal beauty! (Legend may claim this to be true but I think it was her last laugh!!)

Pissouri
Perched on the hillside, the views from Pissouri village and its surroundings are spectacular.

Pissouri has a quaint, unique character bestowed by winding cobbled streets lined with charming rustic houses. The Cypriot character has certainly been retained and is what attracts so many visitors.

There is an exceptional choice of restaurants and taverns offering a wide range of cuisine Pissouri really does have it all from ice creams palours to exquisite fine dining there are restaurants for all occasions!

During the summer there is a traditional Cyprus night in the lovely pedestrianised village square, with dancing and music. It is hosted by the three restaurants and their collaboration creates an incredible party atmosphere that is so infectious you can’t help but be drawn into the merriment! There is much Greek Dancing and entertaining whilst you dine underneath the stars and later a DJ with a live band take the evening into the early hours! Although the idea is perhaps to provide entertainment for Pissouri’s visitors, it is also true that a significant number of those present every week are the villagers themselves! Here you can truly enjoy an authentic Cyprus evening but as you can imagine the evenings are so popular that early booking is essential!!

Kourion Amphitheatre
The ancient Hellenistic Kourion Theatre which sits on the top of a hill overlooks the glistening Mediterranean Sea, was constructed probably around the late 2nd century A.D.
The magnificent presence of this ancient relic resonates of times gone by and over the years it’s stage featured raging gladiators as well as plays and operas.

The view from Kourion Ampitheatre is nothing short of spectacular and at its feet you will find the ever popular Kourion Beach. (sometimes spelled Curium). Kourion is a sandy blue flag beach with a gentle shoreline. It can however be a little windier here and as there are no wave breaks it is a great place for wind surfing, kite boarding and even hand gliding.

There are three restaurants on the beach and I have to be extremely bias on this occasion and show my loyalty to Chris’s Blue Bar and Restaurant, which is the middle one. This Beach restaurant has recently been refurbished and offers sun loungers, wonderful shower and changing facilities. The restaurant has a varied menu but genuinely it would be a shame to miss the delicious fresh fish on offer. Choose your own fish from the chilled displays or order a great bottle of wine and let wave upon wave of Fish Meze come to you. Believe me when I say that you will not need to eat again that day!

Kourion is a great day out and you will find more locals than tourists on the beach. As Kourion is close to Fasouri Water Park, it can also be a civilised way to end a day of water mayhem!

North East of Coral Bay
Troodos and Mountain Villages
Cyprus is one of the few places where you are able to walk on sun-kissed beaches in the morning and ski on snow-capped mountains in the afternoon. In the summer months, Troodos is a cool, welcomed retreat from the coastal heat and there are many activities to pursue from woodland pony rides to cycling and walks on dappled pathways leading to hidden waterfalls.

Winter time offers a magical wonderland where you can sip delicious hot chocolate made on location in Platres, have skiing or snowboarding lessons, hire sledges for some real family fun or simply build a snowmen! Wintertime in Troodos is a main attraction for tourists and locals alike and the village square is bustling with people purchasing hot honey nuts and sampling Commandaria wine.
